The Learning Center is a direct services component of Divine Images Network, Inc. proving after school homework assistance, reading, math, creative writing, self-esteem, self-worth, team and leadership building skills to youth ages 5-12.
The center is also designed to assist their parents with job searching, resume preparation, computer training and resource materials as well as tutor and mentor their children.
The mission of this program is to improve the lives of young people in the underserved communities through innovative, technology-based approaches of mentoring and academic enrichment.
Traumatic and violent situations often paralyze our youth to the degree that they become emotionally detached from society. They often develop very low opinions of themselves, lack self-confidence and become distrustful of others. Through role-playing and team building skills, these youth will learn to develop healthy self opinions, build trust, restore hope and inspire them to have a positive sense of self worth and confidence.
Our program has been designed to address issues that plague the socially and economically disadvantaged communities. It is our goal is to identify, explore, and provide answers to teen lifestyle challenges.
Through this diverse and innovative program we offer the benefits of personal growth and image transformation through personal, one-on-one mentoring, seminars, workshops and other outreach experiences. We teach our youth and adolescents to understand their self worth, value and esteem as well as how to identify their own inner strengths to break free from violent lifestyles, poverty, lack of education and immortality.
Our one-on-one mentoring, intense group coaching and emotional and social healing sessions enable us to facilitate effective intervention strategies. The core projects display and demonstrate innovative ways to solve social programs. Our comprehensive curriculum is designed to help our client's breakthrough and overcome challenges as they rebuild their lives and break through the psychological and economical barriers that hold them back. It our goal to conquer such traumatic issues as: domestic violence, sexual abuse, teen dating violence, homicides and teen pregnancy.
We also offer summer and after-school programs in partnership with local educational institutions, community-based organizations, parents, and friends of the youth clients we serve.
Our clients are young people between the ages of 5-12. Our program is a strong youth and adolescent community leadership training program teaching community values through art & education. The clients are referred to us by teachers, counselors, or other youth professionals as it is identified that they need positive, supportive adult in their lives. Our mentees and mentors will spend an average of three hours a week together for at least one year. There time spent together is learning about new people, places, and things; exploring new opportunities; and getting to know one another.
Our program coordinators check in regularly with the Program Director, offering support and suggestions on ways to build stronger relationships. They also coordinate group activities that the mentees and mentors may choose to attend. From rock climbing to art making, from study skills or gang prevention workshops to college tours or kite building, these activities allow mentors and young people to meet other mentors and mentees while making memories of their time together.
